About Community Learning Partnership

"Switching on lights to learning"

Welcome to Community Learning Partnership, or CLP for short!

We're a fun and friendly charity, celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, and we specialise in community and family learning in the South West Hertfordshire area.  What really gets us up in the morning is finding untapped potential in local people who might have written themselves off, or by others who don't believe in them.  There's nothing more rewarding than seeing somebody begin to blossom and find self-fulfilment - it literally makes you feel high on life - and that feeling rubs off on others to make fun and purposeful communities which contribute to the well-being of all.

We serve what are, statistically speaking, amongst the most disadvantaged parts of Hertfordshire, including South Oxhey and Borehamwood.  Whilst it's true that there's not as much money around in these areas as others, and many people have more than their fair share of problems, these are generous and close-knit communities where residents support one another.  It's also true that, whenever we've run focus groups or undertaken research, residents are able to identify and articulate issues which affect their lives and well-being, but are equally exceptionally creative in finding their own solutions to overcoming them.  The bit that's very often missing is knowing how to bring about the changes they want to make, and this is where CLP comes in, by acting as facilitators and co-developers.

Family Learning

In all the years that we've been running, we've worked hand-in-hand with our service users to provide the types of learning and projects that they will enjoy and benefit from.  Family learning is a good example.  Remember when you were at school? That was probably some time ago, and if you did well - fantastic! - but what and how children are taught is very different now.  If you didn't do so well, you're going to find it difficult to support your child because maybe you've got some gaps in your skills.  Family learning enables parents/carers to help their children to learn, whilst also plugging these gaps, helping them to get on with their lives by gaining qualifications and employment.  It's also really creative and good fun!

Community Learning

CLP also provides plenty of opportunities for adult community learning, particularly in arts & crafts. These are really popular courses, such as crocheting, felting, digital textiles, art journalling, sewing, mixed media, 3D art - and lots more.  We also specialise in social media, so that we can create online learning communities on platforms such as FaceBook.  This means that the learning doesn't have to stop once the course is over as videos and tips can be shared, and peer-to-peer support given.  We also run a weekly self-organised group for crocheters, cheekily known as the Heavenly Hookers, and a bi-weekly group for art journallers, called the Journalling Junkies!

If you would like to find out more about taking part in one of our courses or projects, do get in touch with Elizabeth Borg on 07771 99 28 95 or email her on

If you would like to support our work, please consider making a one-off donation or a regular, monthly amount, by clicking the Donate button at the top right-hand side of the page.  We don't receive statutory funding, so your generosity would be very much appreciated.

Many, many recent things have happend, but there has been no time to put these onto our blogsite!!!

Our teaching, contracts and the energizing running of the CLP Angels group has not left time to get on with these bits! - but we know these Lil' Gaps remain ;-)
